An opportunity has become available to join the Chief Executive's department within a Local London Authority who are looking for someone to join their media and communications team to help develop, implement and sustain communications activity which is in line with the corporate communications strategy of the council.

Your new role

The Media and Communications Officer will work with the Media and Communications Manager to plan, cost and deliver a range of media and communications activities which help support the client departments' corporate aims. You will produce and implement media and communications strategies which help to secure positive coverage of the council and build its reputation to further its position. You will need to monitor both positive and negative emerging issues and advise senior managers on the handling of these as well as building and maintaining excellent relationships with key internal client departments.

You will be monitored on the amount of positive media coverage you gain for the Council and also on the level of resident's satisfaction collected in Surveys.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role you will need to possess detailed knowledge of media and communications requirements that are necessary in a local borough, you will also need demonstrable experience and success in leading media or communications campaigns which generate positive coverage in a local authority or related environment. You will also need to be able to prepare detailed briefs for councillors and senior officers for media interviews as well as produce high quality and accurate copy for a number of publications including news releases and online content. Demonstrable experience of working as or with journalists is also required.
