The governing body of the Square Mile is looking for a Culture Communications Officer to lead, support and co-ordinate its communications on the cultural element of its COVID-19 'reopening' campaign. The post-holder will provide clear communications to the media, and City residents, workers and visitors, as London begins to reopen as part of the Government Roadmap. The City of London Corporation is the fourth largest funder of heritage and cultural activities in the UK, investing over £130m every year. In partnership with the Barbican, Guildhall School of Music & Drama, London Symphony Orchestra, and the Museum of London, the City Corporation is leading the development of Culture Mile between Farringdon and Moorgate, a multi-million-pound initiative to create a new cultural and creative destination for London. It is responsible for running various culture institutions across London including: City visitor attractions such as Tower Bridge and The Monument, Guildhall Art Gallery, Keats House in Camden, Metropolitan Archives in Clerkenwell, The Barbican and Tower Bridge

Main Duties and Responsibilities -Working to the Director of Communications and the Head of Media, the COVID-19 Culture Communications Officer will:

  • Draft and issue news releases to media
  • Represent the City Corporation's Communications Team in key meetings
  • Utilise social media to maximise the impact of messaging through a wide range of platforms
  • Establish, develop and maintain strong working relationships with City of London Corporation elected Members and Officers and act as an important link between these groups, the Communications Team and the wider organisation
  • Research, organise and write statements, photo-ops, authored articles, briefings and other related communications tools designed to get our messages across
  • Maintain a good knowledge and understanding of the City of London Corporation's overall communications work
  • Provide strategic media and communications advice

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate all the below:

  • Excellent writing skills with attention to detail
  • Experience of working in a busy, demanding communications role
  • Experience of dealing with the media and able to turn around press releases at short notice
  • Able to provide strategic media and communications advice
  • Able to write engaging content to a range of audiences using multiple-channels
  • Adept at social media and able to use various platforms
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills and used to working with members and a range of teams
  • Used to writing a range of content including statements, briefings, articles with a clear message
  • Understanding of brand, tone of voice and adhering to content guidelines
  • Will have experience of working in the public sector as a communications officer
