Job description

Do you want to deliver compelling communications and events that champion safer recruitment and the safeguarding of vulnerable groups throughout Scotland?

Disclosure Scotland is an executive agency of the Scottish Government, supporting safer recruitment and helping to protect vulnerable groups through trusted disclosure services. As a Communications and Events Officer, you will join our Communications Team and Customer Engagement Team at an exciting time as we deliver our Communications and Engagement Strategy 2026 to 2030 and the DS30 Corporate Strategy.

In this role, you will help shape how Disclosure Scotland communicates with customers, stakeholders and its people. You will create engaging content, support corporate communications and events, and contribute to stakeholder engagement activities that build awareness, promote understanding and support organisational objectives.

The Disclosure Scotland Communications Team is responsible for internal and external communications through the delivery of the Communications and Engagement Strategy 2026 to 2030, Brand Strategy and Social Media Strategy. The Customer Engagement Team is responsible for supporting and engaging with organisations that access higher levels of disclosure, such as the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme, and for providing clear and accessible guidance. The role sits within the Policy, Customer Engagement and Communications Directorate of Disclosure Scotland and will be split between the Communications Team and Customer Engagement Team.

Responsibilities

Communications Team;

  • Draft and publish content, ensuring it is accessible, meets agreed requirements, uses an appropriate tone of voice and plain English, and adheres to the Scottish Government's Writing Style Guide.
  • Continuously improve Disclosure Scotland’s internal channels by providing support to deliver the recommendations on the annual internal channel audit.
  • Support the delivery, design and review of corporate communication products.
  • Monitor the Communications Team mailbox as part of a rota and deal with relevant enquiries.
  • Support the maintenance and consistent application of Disclosure Scotland’s brand across internal and corporate communications. This includes working with business areas to assess existing materials and identify out-of-date content.
  • Support insight and evaluation activity to inform communications planning using the Government Communication Service (GCS) OASIS model, including monitoring event feedback, internal channel engagement and summarising findings.

Customer Engagement Team;

  • Support the delivery of events, policy consultations and training workshops for external stakeholders, in conjunction with Customer Engagement Managers.
  • Manage conference bookings and relevant travel arrangements, including assisting with initial consultations to identify requirements, tailoring materials and events appropriately, and ensuring supporting materials are shared with relevant parties.
  • Record stakeholder attendance and event feedback, assisting Stakeholder Event Managers in analysing feedback as part of continuous improvement and providing insights to help guide policy.
  • Support continuous improvement of training and guidance to ensure stakeholders comply with legal duties and safeguarding responsibilities. For example, ensuring that the National Barring Service receives relevant and timely contributions from external stakeholders.
