About the DEC

The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) is a unique and dynamic membership organisation which comprises 15 of the UK’s leading humanitarian charities: ActionAid, Action Against Hunger, Age International, British Red Cross, CAFOD, CARE International, Christian Aid, Concern Worldwide (UK), Islamic Relief Worldwide, International Rescue Committee UK, Oxfam GB, Plan International UK, Save the Children, Tearfund and World Vision.

Pooling our resources to work as one, we are pivotal in co-ordinating the UK public's response to overseas disasters. In collaboration with our Rapid Response Network of national media and corporate partners, we raise the alarm to the UK public and set up easy ways to donate, with the majority of our funds raised over an intensive two-week period following a disaster.

Since our launch in 1963, we have run over 75 fundraising appeals and raised more than £2bn, saving countless lives and rebuilding communities.

We are now seeking a Media and Creative Content Lead to join us working three-to-five days per week, for a six-to-nine month fixed-term contract.

The Benefits

- Salary of £37,000 per annum (pro rata)
- 25 days’ annual leave plus statutory public holidays
- HealthCare Cash Plan, providing an array of health services
- Employee Assistance Programme
- 8% Employers’ pension contribution
- Season ticket loan
- Cycle-to-Work scheme
- Informal dress code

This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity for a content creator with experience in press strategy and PR to join our dedicated and collaborative organisation.

Your digital marketing and fundraising expertise will be vital in helping us engage with the UK public via various digital platforms to raise awareness when global humanitarian disasters occur.

You will have the chance to take your skills and experience to the next level whilst getting deeply involved in our critical work and delivering a wide range of engaging material.

The Role

As a Media and Creative Content Lead, you will research and report on the Pakistan Floods Appeal accurately and informatively, producing powerful communications to support fundraising.

Creating culturally sensitive and impactful content across digital and print channels, you will ensure full and informed consent of any featured individuals. You will explore creative ideas for ensuring content reach is appropriate for various audiences and creates impact at key reporting moments.

Providing weekly reports to colleagues on your progress, you will ensure content is available in appropriate formats and easily accessible.

Additionally, you will:

- Co-ordinate media visits, pitch content to journalists and respond to press and PR queries
- Track and monitor spending on content gathering, video and static asset production
- Ensure our values are upheld and integral to all your work throughout your DEC journey

About You

To be considered as the Media and Creative Content Lead, you will need:

- Proven experience in translating relevant subject matter into engaging and compelling content
- Proven experience in commissioning content gathering, press strategy and pitching
- Proven experience of working with similar (internal and external) stakeholders
- A proven track record of designing and executing successful press and PR campaigns at both a local and national level
- Demonstrable experience with social media, including blogs, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
- Proven experience in using content and analytics tools to make data-driven decisions
- Exceptional storytelling communication (oral and written) and presentation skills
- Proven financial acumen to comfortably track and monitor budget spend
- The proven ability to prepare content and PR plans for diverse audiences, utilising appropriate tools and methods to ensure messaging is accurate and audience-sensitive
- A high level of IT literacy including social media platforms

A demonstrable understanding of the culture, language and dialects of Pakistan and South Asia would be advantageous.

The post-holder may, on occasions, be required to work additional hours in response to an emergency, events held outside office hours or to extra workload. Where possible, notice of this will be given and time off in lieu is available. Occasional UK travel and overseas visits may be required.
