Role overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced communications professional to help us realise our vision of a world that is free from oppression, homelessness, violence, and abuse for all women and children.

You’ll be joining The Haven at an exciting time as we continue to build and enhance our Communications team. This role will be the driving force and we’re seeking someone who is passionate about - and can advocate for - the potential of brand, digital and understanding our audiences to help The Haven fulfil its vision and mission. With the support of the Strategic Manager for Development, you’ll take a creative, confident and user-led approach to developing and implementing the communications strategy.

WIth a flair for crafting the right message for the right audience, you will help us reach out to more women and children who need our support, and inspire new and existing supporters.

We’re seeking someone with the skills, knowledge, ability and passion to take ownership of communications and implement a strategy focused on growth and brand awareness.

You don’t need to be an expert in domestic abuse and violence against women and girls (VAWG), but you do need to come with a passion for learning and growing your knowledge in this area. You’ll need to be a natural collaborator, keen to leverage the benefits of co-production with your colleagues, management, direct reports, skilled volunteers, and other professionals.

If you are driven, agile, creative, passionate, courageous, accountable, enthusiastic and future focused (without losing sight of the here and now), if you can motivate yourself and others around you and you’re excited by challenges, then we want to hear from you.

Whilst we are open to individuals seeking a role that is mostly home-based, there will be an expectation that the post holder attend site from time to time, in particular our safe accommodation as part of gaining insight into the experiences of women and children. This is key in enabling The Haven to ensure our communications are centred around the voice of our service users. As such, we are only considering applications from female candidates (Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010) and ask that applicants live within a 2-hour travel radius of Wolverhampton.

What working at The Haven can offer you:

  • Access to a wealth of VAWG and Domestic Abuse CPD accredited training
  • A supportive, collaborative environment where there is always room for growth and development
  • The opportunity to be instrumental in shaping the direction of comms that will impact The Haven for years to come
  • Health Cash Plan and Employee Assistance Programme
  • Flexibility to help you manage the demands of life and to support a healthy work-life balance
  • Generous leave entitlement; 27 days basic leave plus bank holidays and additional concessionary days
  • Salary exchange opportunities

Regrettably, as a consequence of the nature of The Haven’s work, the Communications Manager will be subjected to inappropriate comments about victims of domestic abuse, as well as gathering and copywriting distressing case studies. As such, the successful candidate will need to be able to manage this with resilience, tact and professionalism.
