They are uniquely placed to provide advice and representation on energy law matters before English and international courts at all levels.

36 Stone are currently seeking a Business Development Manager to work alongside Members to develop a comprehensive business plan for chambers as well as helping to maintain and manage their existing client database. You will be responsible for developing corporate branding, analysis of potential clients and working with Members on their personal business development.

Reports to: Head(s) of Chambers

Direct Reports: All members of the 36 Stone clerking team

Primary Responsibilities-

  • Responsible for developing the corporate image / branding of 36 Stone.
  • Alongside the Members, develop a comprehensive business plan for 36 Stone.
  • Undertake monthly, quarterly and annual reviews of the business plan. 
  • Identify new business streams and develop methods of reaching them.
  • Develop and maintain good client relationships.
  • Work with Members of 36 Stone to develop personal business plans.
  • Undertake regular reviews of Members’ business plans and provide feedback.
  • Manage and maintain the client database.
  • Ensure continued online presence of 36 Stone within the shipping market.

Details Responsibilities-

Business Development:

  • Develop a corporate image / branding for 36 stone.
  • Launch new and creative ways to win new business. 
  • Liaise with the Members of 36 Stone to develop a comprehensive business plan and hold regular reviews to ensure that the targets are being met.
  • Identify new business streams and develop methods of reaching them.
  • Develop good client relationships and be responsible for the maintenance of such relationships.
  • Identify potential clients that do not currently instruct Chambers and conduct market research and analysis. Develop a method of addressing this in an attempt to win new business.
  • Manage and organize corporate hospitality events and client meetings.
  • Support the marketing of all activities within 36 Stone.

Members’ career development:

  • Liaise with Members of 36 Stone to understand their personal business development goals and objectives.
  • Regularly review the Members’ practices to ensure they are keeping in line with the goals and objectives.
  • Ensure the clerking team allocate work to members consistent with those plans.

Management of clerking team:

  • Ensure staff perform their jobs effectively and advise them when necessary.
  • Ensure there is always adequate cover in the 36 Stone clerking team.
  • To be fully familiar with all aspects of the computer system and to advise and assist when necessary.
  • Keep the clerking team informed and aware of decisions affecting them and the practice group as appropriate.
  • Conduct annual appraisals and 6-month reviews of members of the clerking team.
