Head of Communications 

Our client is the UK’s largest provider of specialist services for victims of all forms of gender-based violence (domestic, sexual, so called ‘honour’ violence, trafficking, prostitution, forced marriage, stalking and FGM). Every day they support over 6,500 women and children in their national network of services. These include Independent Domestic, Sexual and Gender-based Violence Advocacy services (IDVAs / ISVAs and IGVAs), community outreach, specialist accommodation, sanctuary services and culturally-specific services and the Freephone 24 Hour National Domestic Violence Helpline (run in partnership between our client and another charity). They advise Government and lobby hard to keep violence against women and girls high on the public agenda. They run award-winning prevention and public education campaigns, managing a busy press office and website, and they are an accredited training provider. They give a voice to the voiceless. 

Position: Head of Communications, Media and Campaigns 
Location: Head Office, London 
Job type: Full Time, Permanent 
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:30pm 
Salary: £52,541 per annum

About the role: 

As our client’s head of communications, media and campaigns, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in developing an ambitious communications strategy which will ensure our client is the leading voice in the violence against women and girls arena. 

Our client is the UK’s largest single provider of specialist domestic violence services, providing life-saving support to women and children escaping domestic violence. Our client supports over 6,500 women and children a day through personalised support plans, women’s refuges, a national 24- hour helpline and independent domestic violence advocates. Our client also runs powerful, award-winning campaigns to raise awareness of domestic violence and reach out to abused women and children. 


Driven and self-motivated, with exemplary writing skills for a variety of audiences and a substantial track record in media relations, successful campaigns and digital innovation, this post-holder will develop and deliver an ambitious communications and campaigns strategy. 

Finding innovate ways to communicate our client’s violence against women and girls messages, you will establish and grow key relationships with journalists, digital influencers and champions in your efforts to maximise PR and media exposure. 

About you: 

You will have previous experience of reactive and proactive media activity, as well as extensive experience of running major awareness-raising campaigns and driving digital strategy, alongside generating mass media coverage through different channels. Ideally you will have experience in movement building. 

Able to work under tight deadlines, the successful candidate will demonstrate excellent leadership and management skills, with the gravitas and credibility to build communication opportunities for our client.
