Are you a DevOps Engineer who's interested in making an impact at one of the UK's largest charities? Do you want to play a key role in the successful migration of our website? If so you could be a perfect fit for the BHF.

About the role

Our main website,, plays an increasingly important role in how the British Heart Foundation raises money but also how it supports those who are affected by heart & circulatory diseases.

Around £44m of our annual revenue starts or ends in a digital touchpoint and this has increased significantly in the last 4 years. Over that period the BHF has created an almost fully-ledged in-house digital team using Agile Methodology to deliver new digital products & services.

The website is currently being migrated to MS Azure and the web development team utilises mainstream tools such as GitHub, Teamcity and Octopus to manage code versioning, branching, continuous integration and releases to UAT, Staging and Production environments.

We're now looking for a dedicated DevOps Engineer to maintain and streamline this process, working very closely with the development and testing team and helping to implement automated testing routines into the development process.

You'll :

  • Work closely with the IT Security team to minimise security risks and with our cloud hosting support provider and Service Delivery Manager on monitoring and alerting.
  • Work alongside architects and other colleagues to improve performance and to ensure that the site scales effectively as our audience continues to grow.

Over time your role will also cover other BHF websites.

About you

You'll be successful in this role if you have
  • Excellent understanding of versioning, continuous integration and release management systems & technologies.
  • Solid knowledge of automated testing tools
  • Significant experience provisioning, operating, and managing high availability environments on Microsoft Azure or AWS.
  • Practical experience working with code versioning systems like GitHub, continuous integration technologies such as Team City or Jenkins and release management tools such as Octopus or similar.
  • Positive attitude always looking to improve things.

A logical thinker who's able to troubleshoot effectively, you'll have significant experience of provisioning, operating, and of managing high availability environments on Microsoft Azure or AWS, building and deploying securely to cloud.

You'll also be a good relationship builder and communicator who can easily translate technical terms to non-technical colleagues.

In return we offer excellent benefits, flexible working and training opportunities.
