Carter Recruitment is working exclusively with a dynamic online travel retailer with ambitious growth plans, who are recruiting a Commercial Manager. This is a brand new position designed to enable the business to evolve its product offering in line with ever changing customer needs and market forces. The position requires travel experience, adaptability and someone with vision and energy.
Initially, the role will focus on planning, procuring, costing, pricing and distributing services for their customers. The Commercial Manager will have accountability for meeting agreed revenue targets as well as seeking new opportunities for business development whilst planning areas for improvement, development and greater efficiency.
The Commercial Manager will also ensure the business makes the correct day-to-day commercial decisions regarding booking amendments and cancellations. So, training and development of staff will be key as they seek to retain customer goodwill and retention at the cheapest cost.
Another vital part of the role is to oversee the Product department, to help them plan, organise and consider the commercial aspects of their function with regard to their core product offering. The Commercial Manager will liaise with internal Supply Managers including Revenue, Marketing, Contact Centre, Overseas, Procurement, Customer Services, Accounts and IT as well as third parties who supply products and services to their customers.
In a little time, with a growing understanding of their products, pricing and promotion, the position will entail working closely with Revenue Management and Marketing to help the business differentiate its offering and merchandise online to new and existing customers. There will also be a requirement to provide strategic input on the procurement of new and existing products in line with customer trends and demands.
The ability to work closely and collaborate effectively with colleagues in complimentary areas of expertise, to help the business reach the correct decisions, is crucial.
The ideal candidate is likely to have commercial experience working in product and procurement. They should be self-motivated, entrepreneurial, energetic, analytical, conscientious and flexible whilst working well within a busy, talented team. The position requires good managerial abilities, excellent communication skills and sound commercial acumen. It is important that candidates possess good knowledge of the UK travel industry and are proficient with Microsoft Excel.
