An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced business development and marketing professional to join a specialist intellectual property law firm. The role holder will be responsible for the delivery of all areas of business development and marketing.

The successful candidate will be tasked with the day-to-day running of the business development function. Working closely with different groups of patent and trade mark attorneys, you will be the primary contact for partners and other fee earners on all marketing and business development matters. On the business development side, the BD & Marketing Manager will analyse emerging business issues and developments identified by various internal business development groups and work with fee earners to translate these into opportunities for the firm. The role holder will support business development and profile raising initiatives and provide recommendations of best practice in targeting and sales techniques. You will be tasked with assisting fee earners in the preparation of formal and informal pitches for new business ensuring best practice is followed in the pitch process and that the final proposal documentation is appropriate. You will also co-ordinate the firm's key client programme and attend internal meetings of client teams ensuring the objectives of the programme are being met. From a marketing perspective, you will be responsible for major legal directory submissions, planning and delivering client functions, maintaining the firm's online marketing presence and marketing intranet pages and designing and developing marketing collateral.

Suitable applicants should have a high standard of education combined with significant experience of business development in a professional services environment and understanding of the complex nature of a partnership environment. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills in both one-to-one meetings and broader interactions and excellent copy-editing skills with a high level of attention to detail are essential, whilst understanding of the intellectual property industry and experience of supervising junior staff on a day to day basis are highly desirable.
