Your new role

The primary purpose of this role is to manage the departments media strategy and external communications, including actively planning storylines, managing issues and positioning the agency around it expertise. This key role within the communications team will support the Director of Communications to deliver on the objectives of the agency's broader communications strategy.
You will be responsible for media relations planning and managing the forward calendar, continued monitoring and analysis of media issues and topics. You will engage with internal stakeholders to extract relevant information and develop content as well as applying excellent written skills to draft media statements and specific communications strategies. As well as managing the agreed media process and engaging with the media as required, e.g. managing interviews. You will also have technical skills for presentations as well as uploading media content to channels.

Key challenges of the role will be managing the demands of an intensive media program, including the expectation of both proactive and responsive media management. You will extract key information from internal stakeholders to formulate strong media storylines. You will effectively plan ahead as well as working at a fast pace within a government environment.

What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role you will have a proven track record developing media angles, managing stakeholders, delivering exceptional writing skills and analytical thinking. You will have demonstrated experience in handling highly sensitive and confidential business information as well as a tertiary level qualification or equivalent professional qualification in communications, public relations or media. It is essential that you have the ability to work and collaborate with multiple stakeholders both within the agency, service providers, Ministers Officer and across the departmental cluster.
