Business Analyst / Project Manager - Oldham - £27-30k+

Well-respected e-commerce applications / software company, in Oldham, is looking for a Business analyst / Project Manager to join their talented team.

You will be an experienced project manager / business analyst / account manager, with a general awareness of software development and project management methodologies. You will have a general understanding in the areas of application programming, database and system design, as well as an understanding of internet, intranet, extranet and client/server architectures (XML, API's). You will have the ability to develop a thorough understanding of system capabilities and technical architecture. Experience of working in a software house is preferred and any experience of the travel industry would be a distinct advantage.

Specific Requirements:

Business Analysis

  • Minimum of 2-3 years' experience working as a Business Analyst across the full product lifecycle
  • Identifying process and functional improvements to meet the needs of clients, questioning client requirements and adding value to the requirement gathering process
  • Gathering outline requirements from clients, refining and documenting these to ensure a common understanding of their needs
  • Determine and understand whether the required functionality is already provided by the system or will require development
  • Drafting business solution design, in coordination with the development lead, for the client to review and approve
  • Preparing functional specification of the solution for the client and development team
  • Contribute to the development of appropriate test plans for any process or functional change
  • Review and test the quality of developments and deliverables, ensuring they operate in accordance with the specification and are free from defects
  • Review proposed solutions and specifications for other team members
  • Act as a functional expert in assigned areas of the application
  • Experience of working in the Travel Industry or in a Software Development house would be an advantage

Technical Understanding

  • Possess general understanding in the areas of application programming, database and system design
  • Understand Internet, Intranet, Extranet and client/server architectures
  • Development a thorough understanding of our system capabilities and technical architecture
  • Maintain awareness of new and emerging technologies and the potential application on client engagements

Client Management

  • Manage day-to-day client interaction, setting and managing client expectations, and developing lasting relationships with client personnel
  • Communicate effectively with clients to identify needs and evaluate alternative business solutions
  • Identify opportunities to increase customer satisfaction
  • Build a knowledge base of each client's business, organisation and objectives

Project Management

  • Create and execute project work plans and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements
  • Identify resources needed and liaises with development lead
  • Manage day-to-day operational aspects of a project and scope
  • Effectively apply project management methodologies, enforcing project standards and adhering to internal processes
  • Prepare for engagement reviews and quality assurance procedures
  • Minimise our exposure and risk on project
  • Ensure project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately
  • Exposure to a formal PM method would be an advantage


Please note that employees are required to work the odd weekend shift, this would be roughly 1 weekend shift per month and could be worked on a Saturday or a Sunday. The shifts are either 8am-2pm or 12pm-6pm.
