Policy and Engagement Officer X 2 to start ASAP Central London £35,000-40,000 PR-community/stakeholder Comm's

This is a fixed term appointment, which will end 31st March 2017. Closing date is the 11th of October

The Policy and Engagement Officer is responsible for undertaking and supporting effective engagement with all the stakeholders ranging from government bodies and the police service to community and special interest groups.

The post is also responsible for using evidence from this engagement and other sources to develop and implement strategies and policies to improve the work of the organisation and the complaints system.

  • The successful applicants will be required to focus primarily on work relating to community and stakeholder engagement
  • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders including special interest and community stakeholders
  • Support the Chair, Chief Executive, Commissioners and Directors in their strategic engagement with key national stakeholders
  • Under the direction of the Policy & Engagement Manager, work with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement strategies, policies, plans and other initiatives to improve the work of the organisation
  • Provide support to operations in developing and implementing operational policy and other changes to operational practice
  • Provide advice to internal and external stakeholders at all levels
  • Contribute to the annual strategic planning process by using evidence to inform strategic thinking about the organisation's aims and strategic priorities
  • Undertake systematic horizon scanning and identify and recommend actions in response
  • Identify outcomes in relation to the agreed policy project and watching brief areas and develop and implement plans to achieve these outcomes
  • Ensure trends and issues from oversight and confidence work from casework and investigations are identified and used to inform the development of the organisations work
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key internal stakeholders at all levels including Commissioners, Directors and operational staff
  • Manage and deliver projects and other strands of work
  • The job will require some travel to other offices and external meetings

Post holder must be able to demonstrate experience of:

  • community and stakeholder engagement
  • Providing advice to colleagues, including at senior level
  • Building and maintaining effective working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders at both national and local level
  • Developing and drafting evidence based strategies, policies and positions
  • Identifying opportunities to influence the external environment and providing advice to senior staff on how best to make use of those opportunities
  • Using persuasion, negotiation and influencing skills to develop relationships with stakeholders and members of the public who might be resistant or hostile
  • Presenting to a range of audiences
  • Proactively identifying relevant sources of information and interpreting a variety of information to draw out the key issues or areas of interest
  • Managing projects and the ability to tailor an approach to ensure it is proportionate and appropriate to the task
  • Analysing complex issues and clearly communicating them verbally and in writing to a range of audiences
  • Identifying and considering the impact decisions could have on the organisation and its stakeholders
