Engagement and Communications Director

12 month FT contract

Responsibilities

Driving engagement with our target audiences, our key influencers and our partnerships and collaborators who support us in delivering services to our clients.

Close liaison and collaboration with the management team to ensure that all plans and activities are executed.

Responsibility for the marketing team, the relationship management team and the business development team to drive forward engagement in specific areas of our target audience.

Responsibility for ensuring a programme of effective engagement events are in place to build awareness and raise the profile.


  • Oversee the implementation and delivery of our engagement strategy in line with the strategic plan and operational plans developed for 2017.
  • In conjunction with the Relationship Development Manager to continue to develop strategic partnership and raise awareness of our range of services and ensure that they are promoting and signposting members and staff as appropriate.
  • Working with the Services Director and the management team, identify potential strategic partners, collaborators and other agencies who can assist us in promoting our services, raising awareness and provide us with relevant services and material to enhance the offer to our clients and membership, in all their breadth and diversity.
  • Oversee Marketing and Communication plans prepared by the Marketing Manager to ensure integration with our services and overall strategic direction, and ensuring effectiveness in driving engagement in line with targets and recommending changes in approach as necessary.
  • Attend events, networking with personnel and members, and delivering presentations about work.
  • Build an empowered harmonious team that emulates ours values, providing guidance as necessary.
  • Be a role model to your managers, coaching them as they develop further in their roles.
  • Be an effective member, contributing to the overall management and strategic development, in particular ensuring effective engagement model reporting, positioning as a wellbeing organisation and developing a good working relationship with the Board.
  • Own, steer and drive forward the following projects:

  • :

    • potential extension of eligibility to facilitate work
    • digital transformation
    • Friends programme development

  • Attend Board and Committee meetings as requested and provide appropriate information prior to the meeting as required.


  • Arrange and chair regular meetings with the Engagement and Communications Advisory Group


  • Undertake any other duties that may reasonably be assigned to you.

  • Requirements

    Essential

    • A minimum of 5 years management experience.
    • Experience in preparing and influencing strategic plans at organisation and project level.
    • Experience in developing relationships with a wide variety of people
    • Experience in developing and managing partnerships with either not for profit or commercial organisations
    • Ability to prepare and manage budgets.
    • A track-record in delivering operational results
    • Able to work with a variety of tasks.
    • Able to influence and negotiate at a senior level
    • Ability to network with people from a variety of backgrounds and sectors
    • Good attention to detail.
    • Ability to understand and adapt communications style to different situations.
    • Experience in implementing change.
    • Ability to manage projects and obtain buy in from colleagues at all levels.
    • Ability to organise and prioritise work, ensuring deadlines are met.
    • Able to demonstrate initiative in decision making and problem solving.
    • Excellent ability to manage and motivate employees.
    • Effective written and oral communication skills, including being a confident presenter.
    • Meticulous and methodical in approach to work, with attention to detail.
    • Strong team player.
    • Ability to identify the developmental needs of others plus good coaching and mentoring skills, enabling others to improve their knowledge or skills.
