An exciting opportunity has arisen to join an exciting organisation as a Senior Media and Public Affairs Advisor on a contract basis, but with the possibility for the right candidate to go permanent. The main focus of the role is to identify, manage and create high profile media opportunities whilst also being aware of political influences.

Role and responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the Head of Communications and Engagement, you will utilise your wide network of national, regional, local and trade contacts in broadcast, print and digital media to maximise the opportunities to raise profiles
  • You will guide and advise the head of the organisation on matters to take a lead on and have a view on, taking into account the political landscape and wider policies.
  • To manage the reputation and brand, prepare the head of the organisation for media interviews through briefings, message guidance and key lines to take. This will involve media interview training and practice set in a realistic and real-time environment.
  • To raise the political profile and stakeholder influence and to prepare the Head of for meetings with parliamentarians and council leaders, in liaison with the Policy and Performance team, providing briefings on policies and wider political discussions.
  • You will identify and build relations with key stakeholders and policy makers across the UK including Parliamentarians, civil servants, regulators, trade bodies and partner organisations, as well as the media.

Skills and experience:

  • You will have a track record of working in a government/public affairs role and demonstrable experience of gaining substantial media coverage and voice on political matters, as well as protecting the reputation of leaders working in a political and sensitive environment.
  • Extensive internal and external networking, innovative campaign creation and strong writing and presentation skills are essential.
  • You will have excellent written skills - you'll be well used to taking complex issues and turning it into engaging copy
