Hatch is partnering with a leading UK University in Manchester to source the Deputy Director of Marketing whose role will be to help create and drive the marketing strategy through leading and developing key activities, supporting the operational line management of the Department and advising on several committees, projects and initiatives.

Can you consider the implications for the International programme, the student agenda and the commercial focus whilst supporting and guiding a new initiative and still influence the decision making of the various stakeholders?
This “Initiative rich” department prides itself on its can-do attitude. This is a solutions led environment and there is no room for admitting defeat. You will need to deliver on strategic planning via questioning, challenging and driving the contributions of the operational team that is under your leadership. Understand the minutiae of the faculty marketing function whilst keeping in mind the University first approach of the wider strategy. Consider all angles for the multi-facetted approach that a University of this calibre must take whether faculty, student, commercial or international orientated.
The role operates across the full spectrum of marketing channels whether print, digital, social media or otherwise. You will need a true generalist who can lead and inspire across a wide senior team. There are 6 direct reports at a senior management level (who will need to be covered for on occasion) with around 30 indirect reports as part of an overall function up to 60+ strong.
The role reports through to the Director of Marketing who will expect this individual to deputise on occasion. Strong engagement and stakeholder management skills are critical, both internal and external, as there is significant change on going within the University as it tackles the challenging and changing nature of Higher Education now. This ability to operate within a matrix structure will be a key indicator of your capability to handle the role. Experience and an understanding of the regulated nature of the modern Higher Education sector is crucial so that an individual can add value and knowledge into this highly energised function. The department operates at pace with an enthusiastic and highly capable team. The role holder must be able to match this tempo and add to the overall culture and desire of the function to operate at the best of its ability, to constantly strive to achieve best practice and to bring the desired added value to the University.
