About the Post:

Our websites and social media platforms receive thousands of visitors each day and we raise a large proportion of our funds online. We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated and hard-working individual to join our friendly team in a full-time position at our office in Cambridge.


As the Digital and Social Media Officer, you will promote SOS Children’s Villages UK using different digital platforms. This will include producing, editing and updating written content for our social media accounts and websites in support of our digital marketing strategy.  

We are always trying to improve our digital platforms in order to raise more money online. Therefore, you will be expected to assist with research tasks, including usability and A/B tests, as well as improvements to website customer experience.

As we seek to identify cost effective ways to grow our income, you will be required to coordinate and support offline marketing campaigns, with a particular emphasis on the creation of innovative opportunities for online technology and off-line approaches to work together seamlessly.

Your role will include, but is not limited to, the following tasks:

  • Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications Manager in the creation and implementation of the Charity’s innovative Digital Marketing & Communications Strategy.
  • Create content across the business for social media and web platforms ensuring consistent and on-brand messaging.
  • Work with multi-disciplinary internal teams to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget.
  • Coordinate Social Media campaigns.
  • Produce event calendar which includes a regular plan/timetable of digital activity, including emails, and social media posts, web content, and any segmented digital communications.
  • Daily strategic planning of social media posts (scheduling and updating).
  • Support seasonal and emergency relief campaigns on digital platforms.
  • Produce content for, and deliver, regular email campaigns.
  • Support initiatives to develop new products and other initiatives to maximize income.
  • Evaluate campaign performance and report back to stakeholders (internal and external).
  • Optimise website and social media for SEO and SEM.
  • Assist with Adwords campaigns.
  • Monitor results using analytic tools.
  • Improve the overall content of our website, social media channels.
  • Provide online fundraising support to event participants, volunteers and donors.
  • Produce and edit photos, images and video content for use online and in other channels.
  • Support initiatives to develop new products and other initiatives to maximize income.
  • Keep up-to-date with digital trends.
  • Any other duties as required by the Charity.

Person Specification


Our ideal candidate would demonstrate:

  • Strong commitment to SOS Children’s Villages UK purpose and values.
  • Ideally educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Genuine enthusiasm to build career in digital communications.
  • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills, with outstanding attention to detail.
  • Evidence of ability to effectively write, proof-read and edit creative content.
  • Proactive approach to work.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing social media accounts.
  • Ability to use initiative and make decisions appropriately.
  • Ability to develop good working relationships within teams and with multiple stakeholders at different levels.
  • Excellent communications skills.
  • An analytical approach to problem-solving and activity.
  • Knowledge of current data protection and privacy legislation.
  • Experience of using Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop or other graphics/video packages to edit images and video.
  • Willingness to work, when required, extra hours or days.
  • Willingness to travel when required (UK and abroad).


Any prior experience in the following areas would be highly desirable:

  • Html / CSS
  • Knowledge of SEO, SEM
  • Knowledge of Google Analytics and Adwords
