Events Manager 

Established in 1990, our client now have 25 years of successful operation under their belts. Each year they bill revenues of over £25M, and run approximately 200 events across the world. Their office is in London near Liverpool Street and Brick Lane, and they employ around 150 people. 

The bulk of their earnings come from conferences, but they are seeing rapid growth in their publishing activities, subscription services and bespoke research consultancy. They have held conferences across the globe: from Hamburg to Hong Kong, Singapore to San Francisco and Dallas to Delhi. They will go where there’s business. 

Position: Events Manager 
Location: London, Spitalfields 
Salary: £23,000 per annum, plus performance bonus of up to £4,000 (after qualifying period) 

ROLE: 

This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate with a passion for organisation and the ability to handle responsibility right from the start. You’ll work in a multinational office that’s non-hierarchical and full of people just like you, who are ready to offer help, support and advice. 

This role will allow you to gain conference and event operations experience within a fast growing, London-based, international media company. They are already active in more than 35 cities around the world where they run websites, magazines, exhibitions and their own senior level, high profile business conferences. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

You will manage all operational aspects of their more complex and larger scale events worldwide. Duties will include, but not be limited to: 

- Venue selection and site checks along with sponsor and exhibitor liaison 
- Negotiating hotel / venue contracts; finalising menus, banquet orders, and audio-visual equipment 
- Designing and finalising production items (show guides, hand-outs, conference / sponsor signage) 
- Making travel arrangements and facilitating hotel reservations 
- Sourcing, negotiating and liaising with suppliers (audio-visual companies, designers, printers, security staff, and temporary staff) 
- On site set-up, registration, liaison with the hotel and other vendors during the conference and breakdown 
- Maintaining budgets for your events - finding effective ways to reduce costs 
- Final bill consolidation and processing of supplier payments 
- Coordinating internal post event evaluation 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS / EXPERIENCE: 

- Educated to degree level or equivalent vocational training 
- Demonstrable experience in an events based role for a commercial conference or publishing company 
- Experience running several events simultaneously – good ability to multi-task both tasks and events 
- Strong attention to detail – experience proofing copy 
- Ability to travel frequently (up to 8 times a year) for 2-5 days at any time. 
- Be comfortable and confident communicating at senior levels 
- Great diplomat and level headed when working with demanding organisers and suppliers 
- Able to work to deadlines and have a strong work ethic 
- Good time management skills and exceptional attention to detail 
- IT literate – Microsoft office, Outlook 
- A team player, the ability to work on own initiative and a flexible attitude
