The opportunity

We are currently seeking a highly motivated and ambitious New Business Development Executive to help drive the development and execution of firm-wide cross-departmental and cross-border strategic pitches and panel reviews for the London Business Development team. This role also supports the Corporate, Funds & Finance (CF&F) Division on their day-to-day pitch requirements.

This central role will report in to the Senior New Business Adviser who heads up the firm’s New Business team, which is essentially the EUME’s central bids function based in London.

This role is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced BD Assistant/Executive to further develop their pitching experience whilst receiving excellent training and development in a growing international firm. There will be excellent opportunities for career progression for the successful candidate. We are seeking to grow the New Business team over the next 12-18 months and we will be investing in this individual and the team as part of KWM’s overall strategy to increase top-line growth, creating a centre of pitching excellence supporting our EUME practice. 

Working in a busy, results-orientated New Business Team, the New Business Development Executive will also work closely with the practise-based Business Development Managers and the wider KWM business to deliver high quality tender documentation and presentations. 


  • Project management of firm-wide, cross-departmental and cross-border pitches and panel reviews from receipt of ITT/PQQ/RFP, go/no process through to document submission (both on and off-line), presentation planning and analysis and feedback in conjunction with the SNBA.

  • Liaise with global BD team members, providing seamless global pitch support for global tenders led out of other jurisdictions.

  • Working with the CF&F Divisional BD team to support specific new business opportunities at practice level, including credentials, fee proposals and presentations.

  • Supervise initiatives regarding best practice in pitches, including:

    • monitoring pitch support needs of wider BD team and make recommendations to line manager

    • monitor current developments and trends in the legal market to ensure that KWM’s pitch capability keeps pace with competitors and takes advantage of newly reported pitch approaches, and makes recommendations for change

    • other projects as needed.

  • Assisting with post pitch qualitative research (feedback) together with SNBA and the Client Insight Manager

  • Develop close working relationships with other support functions (such as Risk, HR, Finance), working as a virtual team when co-ordinating formal RFP responses.

  • Contributing to a library of best practice content (from recent tenders, capability documents and other sources) for use with future proposals.

Skills/ Knowledge required

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, positive and proactive team player, with excellent communication and project management skills developed in a professional services firm. In addition, you must be able to demonstrate an ability to deal effectively with people at all levels and to think laterally whilst maintaining attention to detail, combined with being both highly numerate and computer literate.

  • Complete IT literacy in Word, Excel and PowerPoint. InterAction is a bonus

  • A good understanding of the sales process and pitch best practice in a professional services firm (preferable).

  • Excellent written English, able to write persuasively.

  • Sound written and verbal communications skills.

  • Be of graduate calibre.

  • Previous experience in a partnership environment in a similar role or experience of working in a bids functions outside of professional services.

  • The ability and knowledge to provide independently advice to the business within the responsibilities listed above, with an understanding of commercial and financial drivers of a people business.

  • Demonstrate a track record of BD and pitch experience gained in a complex environment - ideally in professional services.

  • A robust and commercial stance.

Days/ Hours: Monday - Friday 09:00 - 18:00 (40 hours)
