Only one third of jobseekers confident of finding a role themselves

Recruitment consultancies essential to contemporary hiring process
A recent poll initiated by Adam Holden, resourcing manager at ASDA, suggests that just over one third of jobseekers are confident of finding their next job directly, leaving a proportionately big void for recruitment consultancies.
In an era where jobseekers are encouraged to become proactive and get found through their digital profiles and employers are looking to source talent directly, it is interesting to note the disparity.
The poll, taken from a cross-section of prospective jobseekers, indicates that whilst only 10% would use a recruitment consultancy solely to find their next role, an additional 54% would combine a direct search with the engagement of a recruiter. Whether combining proactive with reactive is a good idea is open to conjecture.
All this seems to be good news for recruiters, whilst pointing to uncertainty amongst jobseekers. Possibly indicative of the current job climate?
Other highlights of the poll showed:
- Of the 261 respondents 143 were male and 63 were female
- Just over 1/3 of respondents were of ‘managerial’ level
- Of those that voted to search for new job using an agency there was an equal number of 18-29 year olds as 45+
